Car wash prices in Ghana in 2026: what washes charge by vehicle and service
Car wash prices in Ghana in 2026, with honest ranges for saloons, SUVs, pickups, trotros and trucks, and why Accra charges more than Sunyani.
GH₵25 at a wash off the Kasoa road. GH₵45 at a wash on Spintex. GH₵70 at a place in East Legon with chairs, a television and a man who dries the door jambs. All three are a body wash on the same Toyota Corolla, on the same Saturday morning, in the same city.
That spread is the first thing to understand about car wash prices in Ghana. There is a range for each vehicle and each service, and where your wash sits in that range depends on the town, the corridor, the water you pay for, and what the customer sees when they drive in.
This post lays out the ranges as they commonly appear in 2026. They vary. Use them to check that your own list is not wildly off.
Body wash prices by vehicle type
The body wash (exterior only, sometimes with a quick tyre wipe) is the price customers compare, so it is the one that anchors everything else.
For a saloon car (Corolla, Elantra, Civic), a body wash in Accra is commonly GH₵25 to GH₵50. In Kumasi and Takoradi it tends to sit GH₵20 to GH₵40, and in Tamale, Sunyani, Ho and Koforidua GH₵15 to GH₵35. SUVs and crossovers (RAV4, Highlander, Tucson, Prado) usually attract GH₵10 to GH₵20 on top of the saloon price, because there is more panel to wash and more height to reach.
Pickups and double cabins (Hilux, Ranger, L200) are often priced close to SUVs, sometimes a little higher when the tray is dirty from site work. A trotro or Urvan is commonly GH₵40 to GH₵80 depending on the town, and a bus or tipper truck can be GH₵80 to GH₵200 at the few washes near Tema port or Suame Magazine that handle them.
Motorbikes and Pragya tricycles are a different market: GH₵5 to GH₵15 is common, and the money comes from volume rather than margin.
Full wash, interior and the add-ons
A full wash (exterior plus interior vacuum, dashboard wipe, mats and door jambs) is typically 1.5 to 2 times the body wash. So a saloon that is GH₵30 for a body wash might be GH₵50 to GH₵60 for a full wash, and an SUV GH₵70 to GH₵100.
Interior only, which Uber and Bolt drivers ask for often, commonly runs GH₵20 to GH₵40 for a saloon. Engine wash is usually GH₵30 to GH₵80 and depends on whether the wash uses a degreaser and someone who knows to cover the alternator. Hand polish or wax is GH₵80 to GH₵250 for a saloon and more for a large SUV, with wide variation because "polish" means different products at different washes. Seat shampooing, headlight restoration and leather treatment sit higher again and are closer to detailing than washing; see "Adding detailing services to your car wash for how those are usually priced.
Tyre shine, air freshener and a wipe of the glass are often GH₵5 to GH₵15 each, or thrown in free at washes that want to feel generous.
Why Accra is not the ceiling and Tamale is not the floor
City is the obvious driver, but it is not the only one. Within Accra, a wash in Osu or Airport Residential sits at the top of the range because rent is high, customers expect shade and seats, and the cars are newer. A wash in Nima or Ashaiman serves the same vehicle for less because the customer would simply drive on if it did not.
Water matters more than most owners admit. A wash on GWCL supply with a working meter pays very differently from one buying tanker water at GH₵150 to GH₵400 a trip in the dry season, and in the north that cost alone can push prices up. Harmattan pushes demand up from November to March, and some washes quietly add GH₵5 during those months. Rainy season does the opposite.
Competition sets the floor. If three washes share a stretch of the Madina to Adenta road, the cheapest one sets the price customers quote back at the other two. Kumasi has its own pattern, with Suame and Adum pricing differently from Ahodwo; there is more on that in Opening a car wash in Kumasi.
What you get for the extra GH₵20
When customers pay GH₵50 instead of GH₵30, they expect to see where it went: a canopy over the waiting chairs, a washer who dries the car rather than leaving it to drip, mats washed and hung properly, no soap left in the mirrors, and nobody asking for "something small" at the end.
The washes that charge at the top of the range and stay full usually have two things in common. The price is posted on a board at the entrance, so nobody feels ambushed. And the service is the same every time, whichever washer gets the car. That consistency is worth more to a regular than GH₵10 off.
Checking your car wash prices against the market
Drive around your area on a Saturday and read the boards. Note the body wash price for a saloon and an SUV at five washes within ten minutes of yours. If your price is above the highest, you need a visible reason. If it is below the lowest, you are probably leaving money on the table and may be struggling to pay washers properly.
Then work out what a wash actually costs you in water, chemicals and labour, and build the list from there rather than from your neighbours. The method is in How to price car wash services by vehicle type. A price board that is anchored to your real costs survives a price war; one copied from the wash down the road does not.
Review the list twice a year, usually before Harmattan and after Easter. Raise in GH₵5 steps, put the new board up, and tell regulars a week before.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a car wash in Accra in 2026?
A body wash for a saloon car in Accra is commonly GH₵25 to GH₵50, with SUVs GH₵10 to GH₵20 above that. A full wash with interior is usually 1.5 to 2 times the body wash price. Washes in Osu, East Legon and Airport Residential sit at the top of the range; washes in outer suburbs and along the Kasoa road sit lower. Prices vary with water costs and the season.
Why do car wash prices differ so much between washes?
Rent, water source, competition on the same road and the customer s expectations all move the price. A wash buying tanker water in the dry season pays far more per car than one on a GWCL meter. A wash with a canopy, seats and consistent drying can charge more than a bare roadside bay. The spread is normal, and what matters is that your price matches what the customer sees.
How much should a car wash charge for an SUV compared to a saloon?
Most Ghanaian washes add GH₵10 to GH₵20 to the saloon price for an SUV or pickup, and more for a large vehicle like a Prado or Land Cruiser. The extra reflects more panel area, more water, more time and taller sides to reach. Trotros, buses and trucks are priced separately and vary widely because few washes handle them regularly.
